About the Summer School
Once a year, around twenty interested people come together to discuss digital, media and global developments in memorial work and the culture of remembrance on the subject of National Socialism.
The Bergen-Belsen International Summer School offers a varied programme of lectures, guided tours, workshops, discussions and excursions. Each year the focus is on a different topic, for example "Digitalisation", "Spatial Concepts" and "Remembrance, Memory and Testimony". During the International Summer School, participants engage intensively with the history of the camps and the work of the Bergen-Belsen Memorial. In addition, external speakers, renowned academics and staff from other memorial sites will provide insights into current research debates and developments in the European memorial landscape. Participants from different countries and various specialist disciplines contribute different perspectives. The encounters enable an intensive exchange on individual views of history and a reflection on existing images of history.
