We offer a wide range of training courses on the history of Bergen-Belsen, the history of National Socialism and our educational programmes. Our training courses are aimed at students, teachers and other multipliers.

Our training programmes

You have these opportunities for further education and training at the Bergen-Belsen Memorial:

Further training for multipliers in Education

The training courses at the Bergen-Belsen Memorial are aimed at students, teachers in schools, educators, multipliers in youth work or extracurricular educational work. You can find the dates and topics of the currently advertised events here. Some of our training courses also take place online or at other venues. Unless otherwise stated, these events are free of charge.

Training courses on the Bergen-Belsen learning site and the educational programmes at the memorial site

The events at the Bergen-Belsen Memorial, which usually last six hours, focus on various topics and familiarise you with the (learning) site itself. This allows you to get an idea of the extracurricular learning site that you want to visit later with your group. In addition to the history of the site, we also look at the educational concepts and programmes of the memorial. It is also possible to take an in-depth look at individual aspects of National Socialist rule.

We also regularly present site-related educational material, such as material on children in Bergen-Belsen, biographical material on the survivors Marion Blumenthal-Lazan or Shaul Ladany.

Training courses on topics of historical and political education

We offer training courses on historical and political education topics that go beyond the Bergen-Belsen site. We are often supported here by experts from other institutions as speakers.

Digital information events

In 90-minute digital information events, we provide information about the educational offers of the memorial and organisational issues relating to a visit with a learning group.

Programmes for existing groups and specialist days for prospective teachers

It is possible to arrange your own training events for groups - such as review boards, subject advisors or training seminars in the second phase of teacher training.

We offer special training days for prospective teachers in particular. In addition to the historical, extracurricular (learning) site, we focus on questions related to teaching the history of National Socialism, the role of the person teaching and reflecting on their own perspectives on the topic.
