We are showing "DrawnTogether" at the Bergen-Belsen Memorial

From 26 July to the end of September 2025, we will be showing the exhibition DrawnTogether. This is an initiative by Dr Tatia Gruenbaum (visiting researcher at TU Braunschweig), in collaboration with the Bergen-Belsen Memorial and funded by the Hertie Foundation, presenting a carefully curated collection of picture books that tell Jewish life experiences during the Holocaust as well as stories of friendship, solidarity and hope.

The exhibition is aimed at children aged 8 to 14. The discovery of each picture book is supported by a reading guide. The aim of the exhibition is to offer a non-traumatising introduction to the topic of the Holocaust beyond the school curriculum. It enables children to view living environments that may differ from their own and to feel connected to the people portrayed. Empathy coupled with understanding could foster the necessary moral courage to protect Jewish lives in the future.

The selected picture books vary in theme and design. All titles are available in English, some also in other languages such as Dutch, German, French and Italian. The name DrawnTogether, written as one word, reflects the connection between text and image and symbolises the combined power of friendship, solidarity and hope in dark times.

We are showing the exhibition in our museum café.
