Working Group Bergen-Belsen e. V.
The Bergen-Belsen Working Group was founded in 1985 by committed citizens. At that time, the memorial consisted of a very small exhibition and a caretaker. From 1985 onwards, the Bergen-Belsen working group developed information material on the history of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp for visitors, offered guided tours, organised commemorative events and projects for young people. The following demands were made: dignified remembrance and commemoration, qualified research, documentation and archiving involving all victim groups including the Soviet prisoners of war, guided tours, a library, bookshop and cafeteria. Most of the demands have now been realised.
The Bergen-Belsen Working Group sees itself as a critical, independent companion and supplement to the work of the Foundation. The AG has turned the "ramp" with the historic railway carriage into a place of remembrance. It promotes youth work with its project "We write your names" for school classes and the design of a "path of remembrance" from the ramp to the former camp entrance. Just take a look at our website.
